Executive Board Service Recognition – Active Retired Membership

In recognition of members who have served on the Association’s Executive Board, the Association shall cover IAFF active retiree membership dues as follows:

Eligibility

  • 6 to less than 10 years of Executive Board service: 5 years of paid dues.
  • 10 to less than 16 years of Executive Board service: equal to years of service.
  • 16 or more years of Executive Board service: Lifetime paid dues.

Members granted Emeritus status by the IAFF or OPFFA shall receive lifetime paid active retiree dues, regardless of Executive Board service. Executive Committee service time may be considered by the board.

Members who leave the bargaining unit to accept a management position with any employer in the fire service shall forfeit eligibility for this benefit, including any previously earned entitlement.

The Association shall pay the applicable active retiree dues directly on behalf of eligible members, including any future increases. Coverage shall begin upon retirement and enrolment in IAFF active retired membership.

The Executive Board may revoke this benefit at any time where it determines that a member has acted contrary to the interests of the Association. Such revocation shall require a unanimous vote of the entire Executive Board, not merely those present at a meeting, ensuring that the withdrawal of an earned benefit requires full Board agreement.

Coverage shall end upon expiration of the applicable entitlement, death of the member, loss of active retired membership eligibility, or revocation under the provisions above.

This provision shall apply to eligible current and future retirees. No reimbursement shall be provided for dues paid prior to its adoption.
